Paul’s Answer

Everyone's situation will be different depending upon what they did to prepare for life after graduation:

Some students were able to get an internship during school and they are lucky enough to receive a job offer from the company they interned with after they graduate.

Others were able to participate in a lot of on campus job interviews and they may receive job offers as well.

A majority of  students would have started looking for work before graduating and will have to work part-time at various businesses until an opportunity presents itself to work in their chosen field.

There will be a few students who will decide to take the time after graduating to relax a little and maybe even go on vacation before they start the job hunt. They may feel that after 4-years of college they deserve a little rest and relaxation before the stress of job hunting begins.

There will be some students who choose to further their education by pursuing advanced degrees as well.

So while everyone's situation will be different it helps to have a plan as to what you're going to do when that day comes and not wait until the last minute.

Jacqueline’s Answer

Hi Adriana,

I agree with Paul. Each student's situation may be different. It seems like you are not already a college student. While you are in school, I would use all of the services offered by the school, to help you determine what you may want to do after graduation. Get involved on campus. Use the Career Servies/Devlopment Center on campus. They can help you with you resume, creating a linkedin profile, help you to determine your interests and possibly get. An internship or mentor. It's never too early to begin working with them even if you are a freshman.

Lindsey’s Answer

Hello! I just graduated from college and I was lucky enough to have a job lined up. I would recommend starting the job search early so that when you graduate, you can make some time to just enjoy yourself. I took a few months to enjoy my free time, friends, and family! It's definitely okay (actually) to do that.

Richard’s Answer

Several choices:

Go straight to work
Work for a couple years then grad school
Straight to grad school or professional school.

I went straight to medical school. I am glad I didn't work first or take a gap year. It would be difficult to get back in the studying mode after taking time off.

Manya’s Answer

Hi Sabrina,

I agree with both the answers above. It is a very situation specific scenario, but definitely a majority of graduates would try to find a job. Some can pursue higher studies as they may want to go for research as their next step. Keeping an open mind and being aware of different opportunities is a good situation to be in. Students also try to get internships during their graduation period which sometimes can be converted to a full time job later, if possible.
