What is it that you want to do with BioMed?  Do you want to be a dr, a researcher, a medical device designer?  If you know a direction you'd like to take, start your research into colleges that support and excel in that area.  Some schools don't have "biomed" but have chemistry, biology, engineering, etc and you can tailor your classes to fit your end goal.  Follow your passion but do your homework.  Know where you want to go and use all your resources to accomplish the goal.  Be proactive in working with your advisors, get a tutor when/if needed, find a great study group.  Your first goal is to graduate and set yourself up for the future!

Jessica’s Answer

If you are a senior in high school, then I would suggest a number of things that you can start doing now. Depending on which specialty for instance; med school, vet school, PA school, etc that you want to attend-you can start preparing for that career even now. For instance; I would recommend volunteering in different fields. So if there is a research lab nearby your college campus, a local hospital, a local community that needs a tutor for a 3rd grader failing in math. Start developing your interests and hobbies in order to find what you want to pursue. Whether that be an MD, DO, or PhD. All of these fields require a lot of hard work, financial planning, and perseverance.

Jessica recommends the following next steps:

I suggest going to VolunteerMatch.org to start looking for local volunteer opportunities near you.
Speak to a guidance counselor and seek further advice and opportunities or resources in your area.
Get a job on campus (part-time) most likely and begin to explore what you like/what you don't like.
Do well and focus on your courses if you are just starting college. Freshman year of college is extremely important and will allow you to get your GPA on track if you wish to pursue a careering biomedicine and if you want to attend medical school.
AAMC.org is the official medical schools admissions website that I would advice going on and becoming familiar with overtime.

As a senior in high school, you should be thinking about what classes to take. AP calculus, bio, chem, and physics are all excellent preparation for the pre-med classes. If you have seen this information before, you will have a better chance of getting an A in the class in college.
