Out of high school, you need to attend college and get a degree along with fulfilling pre-med requirements. You also will need to study for the MCAT (medical entrance exam). You need at least a 3.5 GPA in college and a very good MCAT score. You will need four years education in medical school and start networking with the surgery service at that time. Get involved in plastic surgery research in medical school. During your 4th year of medical school, you will apply for a plastic surgery residency which is 6 yrs. After that, you can establish your own practice. Best of luck!

Hello! When looking to open any practice or business, I always recommend that you develop a comprehensive business plan. Your business plan will help you think about every aspect of your practice before you open it. And, it will help to set you up for success. Additionally, if you are looking for financing from a bank or investors, they will require that you have a written business plan.

Typically, your business plan includes:

- Mission and Vision Statement
- Situation Analysis / Market Research
- Marketing Plan
- Management & Organization Plan
- Operations Plan
- Financial Plan
- Evaluation Plan

Google: "How to write a business plan" and you'll find tons of free resources. I would also recommend that you check out free books, on the topic, from your local library. There are also many books on Amazon.

Blessings,

Shelette

Starting your own medical practice involves a significant amount of administrative work. Many physicians are not prepared for this since very little business education is provided in the 14 years of post-highschool training that is required to become a surgeon. You need to negotiate insurance contracts, hire employees, do payroll, provide health insurance, etc. A lot is learned from trial and error. Going in with an older partner can sometimes be helpful.
