There are some websites that may allow you to do some research on salaries. glassdoor.com, payscale.com, salary.com

Note that these are self reported by other people and are sometimes not the most accurate but it will give you a general idea of different jobs and the pay associated with them.

It is difficult to say as it is dependent on you degree, field and whether you work for a company or university or non-profit. For scientists with a BS degree you may start anywhere from $40,000 and above or more; engineers would start at salaries maybe 50% mmore.. With a PhD and years of experience, you can make a very good living depending on your specific knowledge.
