Chiquria’s Answer

An average GRE score usually means scoring around the middle compared to other test-takers. For the GRE General Test, recent average scores are roughly:

- Verbal Reasoning: 150–152 out of 170
- Quantitative Reasoning: 153–155 out of 170
- Analytical Writing: 3.5 out of 6

Remember, what counts as a "good" score can change based on the program and field you're aiming for. Engineering and math programs might look for higher Quantitative scores, while humanities programs might focus more on Verbal scores.

For the latest percentiles and scoring details, check the official ETS GRE statistics.

Keep pushing forward, and believe in your ability to achieve the scores you need!

Shanell’s Answer

The Verbal and Quantitative portions of the GRE are scored between 130–170, and the average score falls somewhere around 150-152. The Analytical Writing section of the GRE is scored between 0 and 6 in half-point increments, and the average is somewhere around 3.5. It would be a good idea to look up the average scores of students that were accepted to the college/university you would like to attend. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello! Great question. Similar to the answer already posted here, it is going to depend on not only the university you wish to attend, but the specific program. Are you looking to go into education, engineering, etc? I would first look at what is deemed "good" for specific types of programs, then research the university you are interested in attending. They should have on their website somewhere either what the baseline acceptable GRE score is, or what the average accepted student received on their GRE. I know when I applied to grad programs it varied somewhat between programs even at the same univeristy, and then of course varied some between universities as well. Good luck!

Just google "average GRE for ___________. " (the name of the university you are interested in) Then click on the Prep Scholar site. I love this site! And they are fairly accurate, giving you some guidance as to where you can get in. Another option is to look up the "data set" for the specific graduate school you are interested in. This will provide you with information in regard to who is actually getting in, including factors beyond GRE scores. Last, call or email the graduate school admissions office for their accepted score range. I wish you well in grad school...wherever you land. :)
