I'd recommend making some connections on LinkedIn and reach out to environmental engineers. I'm sure there are many people that were in your shoes and would be happy to help you. Not everyone will be open to it or respond but don't be discouraged. LinkedIn is a great resource for networking. There may be people that you have something in common with that you could mention, that may help.
