When looking into studying nursing, what are three things you should know that most people don't realize are apart of the career?

I am looking at studying nursing, but I want to make sure it is the right fit. #nurse #nursing #science #college #higher-education #hospital-and-health-care #medicine

Thank you comment icon To become a nurse and make it your career, I believe that you need to want to care and serve people in whatever capacity is needed. A nurse is a professional caregiver, advocate, educator, mentor who desire to make a difference in taking care of people that have complicated diseases. You need to have patience, empathy, and wisdom to deal with people in all walks of life. You need to study and work hard to become a nurse. It isn't an easy profession BUT it's a rewarding profession when you can help someone get better. I hope this helps. Let me know if you other questions. I have been a nurse for 26 years. 1. Your hours will not be traditional 9-5 m-f. Weekends, holidays, nights, overtime.
2. You will spend a lot of time charting, on the phone etc. It's not direct patient care but it matters.
3. You can't make all patients feel better or happy. Do your best anyway.

As a pharmacist, I would say that you will most likely have to work some holidays at some point in your career. You will probably not find your ideal position at first, but there will be many possibilities, different settings and different shifts or hours. And even with the experience that will be part of your training, you will continue to learn with each job. Ask questions, and strive to be the best nurse that you can be. Good Luck!!
