How often will I find myself stuck without anything to do if I want to be a research biochemist?

I want to be a researcher after I graduate college. However, I want to know how often I will be stuck in the lab without any instruction and no work to do. I wish to be as productive as possible, so I'd like to know if I'll always be busy or not. #biology #graduate #chemistry #undergraduate #biochemistry
