Namita’s Answer

AP Physics will be helpful for pursuing an Engineering degree. I am assuming this will not be your first year of Physics in high school. Please also sign up for AP Calculus.

Thank you comment icon Thank You. For your response. I am definitely taking AP Calculus BC that was the first class on my schedule. I was just not sure whether to take AP Physics or AP Chemistry. Once again Thank You. Fenndher

Devon’s Answer

It all depends on the type of engineering you want to pursue.

Physical Engineering such as Mechanical or Industrial Engineering will require extensive studies in Physics so AP Physics and AP Calculus will help here.

BioEngineering and Chemical Engineering require excellent Chemistry knowledge so AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP Biology will help here.

Electrical and Computer Engineering will require a mix Physics, Math, and Computer Science so AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, and AP Statistics might help here.

Overall, AP Physics and AP Chemistry are your best bets if you don't know what major in engineering you want to pursue. I would recommend AP Physics as my high school did not require any physics and when I took it in college for the first time, it was a culture shock.

Johannes’s Answer

That will vary slightly based on what kind of engineering you want to do (mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.), but there are a few areas you should focus on regardless of where you choose to specialize. I recommend anything in the areas of mathematics (calculus, advanced statistics), physics, or computer science.
