Soumya’s Answer

Definitely. It depends on what your value proposition is on the idea of a rocket shoe and how you position it. If you are aiming for building a ground-breaking rocket shoe, you would seek IP (Intellectual Property) protection on your idea, so engineering novelty is required. And then comes your overall cost based on the target users. Engineering wise, you need to consider:

1. Weight
2. Power Required
3. Driving Energy (Electric vs. Gasoline)
4. Safety
5. User Ergonomics (How it fits the user and how comfortable it is)
6. Selection of Materials and Manufacturing process for Prototype and Product
7. Unit Cost in Production and Supply Chain.

Krishna’s Answer

Rocket shoes is really a good invention. It will definitely be a cool gadget and can make life of people easier. But I don't think it will be an invention that can change the world. It is not something that society badly needs. Society needs a cheap treatment for cancer, technology to efficiently remove pollution from atmosphere, technology to get pure water at low cost. But it does not mean that rocket shoes is a bad idea. It is definitely a good idea if you are able to make it in a compact fashion without those cylinders attached to your back. Also you have to think how much practical it is for people to fly around in public places and not create a havoc. I also don't think flying around inside house wearing rocket shoes is practical unless you have a seriously huge house. Even though it does not seem to be of much help to the mainstream society, it can definitely have good applications in the fields of manufacturing, construction and medical science (may be an advanced form of prosthetics). One thing you always have to keep in mind is that you never know when some invention can go viral. So keep up your good work and make sure you patent your idea. All the best.
