Paul’s Answer

The answer to your question will depend upon where you work. There are many firms on wall street that are making an effort to increase diversity. That being said you should be prepared to be one of a handful of minorities (Black or Hispanic) at your firm. In addition, if you are in a specialized area you might be the only one on your particular team. As a black man I don't see too many other black men in financial services. It gets even worse as you look up the executive level at many firms such as the CEO, CFO, COO, Board of Directors, etc. But don't let any of that scare you off. I didn't. I still come to work everyday and work very hard to prove myself. At the end of the day you have to perform.

Hector’s Answer

Please do not limit yourself by the color if your skin. First and most important of all, you are a person, a human being, who is on the way of a degree to improve skills and way of life, and get a job that allows you to make a decent living. That must be your focus, because getting into College tells me that you have a winning mentality, just need a little advice. So here I am, advising a future winner.
The road is not a bed of roses for any serious College student. Lots of work, activities, projects, classes you may not like but you must pass, and you will make it because you have a goal and a focus in life, that is will be the way your will get strong when you feel you are failing or getting weaker, till the day arrives when you walk out of College with the degree in your hand, victorious and successful.

Jerome’s Answer

For me personally, I entered financial services knowing that many people would not look like me (colleagues, competitors and clients). At the end of the day, you cannot let that deter you or cause you to lose confidence. Maintain a good work ethic, build strong relationships and most importantly, have integrity and the results will follow. Best of luck.
