Hi Shankar, good question!
I think the type of internship and what you do there and the references/network you build there. If you're in an internship just doing work that doesn't impact the business, its hard to justify why it was meaningful whenever you interview for an MBA. Its not about quantity, its about quality.

Internships are good for yourself, your resume and your future career in practical terms unless it’s mandatory to get some degree it brings no benefit in getting admission. However instenrships can give you to refer your practical experience in case studies and research of your degree program if only related to your research topic.

It only helps if it's relevant to your course curriculum. Doing just any internship may not help. It's not a criteria for admission though but it may give some brownie points. If you end up doing an internship, be sure to get a good reference/recommendation letter.
