Lyn’s Answer

Hi Cameron,
If you have a passion for skin then this could be a profession for you. But remember there are many types of skin analysis and different types of jobs that take skin care as a passionate profession. It could be in the medical field or it could be in the beauty industry. Either way, train to the highest educational level you can. Offer to be a voluntary assistant in a medical center or in a beauty salon to learn about the job and understand a little more about the industry.
You can also consider that the skin on the outside is dependent on what you eat and thus a dietician is also an important profession.
Do your research on related topics and work out where you have the most interest.

Jennifer’s Answer

Dermatologists do a wide variety of things, from checking the skin in clinic to more procedure-related treatments. Because of COVID, it might be hard to shadow a dermatologist, but there always Youtube videos that give you a sense and you could also reach out to local dermatologists near you and ask them some questions. Keep in mind that derm is one of the most competitive specialties though!

Valerie’s Answer

Hi Cameron,
It depends what kind of work you like. A dermatologist has great hours typically! They work from 8am-6pm during the week. This includes going in to see patients, doing surgeries in the office, and sometimes also having cosmetic consults. Sometimes the patients are happy and other times they are in pain or not happy! If you like talking to patients, doing treatments, making diagnoses I think it would be a great choice. What I always recommend is shadowing doctors to see if you like what they do.
Best of luck.
