[closed] How do retail inventory management employees operate?
Hello,
I am a college senior with some business academic knowledge. My major is management, and another focus of my study is for administration. Upon looking at a description of a retail manager, it listed some of the following skills needed for the job:
1. inventory analysis
2. production control
3.materials management
4. material planning
What do these terms mean, and what should someone do to know more about them? Is there a way that someone can prepare for the job to make themselves more competitive for the position?
Thank you,

Hello Aimee,
This is a great question. Having a degree focusing on Administration and Management will set you up for great success with a Retail Management position.
Inventory analysis is referring to product and demand, you don't want to have too much stock in the stock room.
Production control varies based on the specific retail location. When I hear this I think of scheduling, hours available, how much manpower you need day to day to complete the stores daily tasks.
Material planning refers to the two topics listed above, it can also be the software used to help you complete the two previous topics.
I hope this helps!

Planning Inventory is a major function of Retail Manager, the fundamental of Retail works on three basic criteria.
a. Availability of Materials as per Catchment needs
b. Proper Display (VM) & Adequate knowledge of Sales Staff
c. Ensuring Footfalls.
So as a retail manager one should be aware of the merchandising and should plan them accordingly, they can also follow ARS (Automated Replinishment System) to put Orders for Inventory basis a Reorder level which is based of that material DSI.
