Sales income is often tied to revenue quotas, and can fluctuate as much as 100% (or more) on this alone. There are also often large bonuses attached to exceeding quotas. I work with a laundry company that serves hotel and the base salary for sales reps is 70k but they can make over 100k if they score big with new accounts or increased volume on existing accounts.

Hi Cooper,

The range for a sales manager will vary greatly depending on what industry, your experience, how many direct reports you have, etc.

One thing to keep in mind for a sales manager is that your salary will likely have two components: your base salary + OTE (on-target earnings). You will earn your base no matter what. But your OTE will depend on how you perform against your quota/target - e.g. if you reach 100% of your quota, you will earn 100% of that OTE. Often, there are accelerators for going above target where sales people can make extra money.

There are other things to bear in mind on top of salary like number of shares, health benefits, etc.

Good luck!

Patrick’s Answer

Cooper, it's really going to range depending on the specific industry and business segment.
In my past though, as a Sales Manager in Retail, the average salary would be about $80,000.
A Sales Manager in B2B would be higher, closer to $150,000+.

Hope this helps!

Compensation is partly determined by the industry you are in, but more importantly how successful you are at teaching your team/employees to sell your service or products. The better you are at this the more money your team will make and therefore the more money you will make, but also the happier you and your team will be. To be a good leader/manager you need to put your team first and if you do that you will ultimately be rewarded as well.
