[closed] How can someone change the world by being a manager?

Hello,

I am a business college senior in college, therefore, I know a little about sales, accounting, and management. My major is in management. My academic knowledge has shown me that I can make a positive change in others by expanding my purpose beyond being a manager. I believe that it is not only important to do my job to get it done, but to do it to the best of my own personal ability. In addition, I do not think that obtaining a job in management is about competing to make yourself look better or to further your own personal gains. Most importantly, it is about working for something better than money or fame. What are some ways that managers can impact those around them? I would like to make others believe in themselves and build them up. I am not personally responsible for others feelings or happiness on the job, but I do feel that it is important to do something for the desire and helping others.

Thank you,
Aimee #business #management #administration #life-coach #life-coaching

Hi, Aimee,

You sound like a very compassionate person! People who are responsible for overseeing the work of other people can have a tremendous impact both on a day-to-day basis and over the long term. The best people leaders are those who provide direction without micromanaging, give constructive feedback, and allow the people who work for them to evolve into their best professional selves.

They serve as mentors, even if the people they mentor go on to other companies. They offer to speak at various company gatherings to share their professional knowledge and career experiences so that others can learn, as well.

This morning I saw Sheryl Sandberg, who is the COO of Facebook and who wrote the book called Lean In, which is about women and leadership in the business world. She has started an organization to encourage senior professional women to help other women around them. She cited that if women do not help other women, it will be 100 more years before women have the same access to the most senior positions in companies that men have today. We always feel better about ourselves when we give to others and set an example for leadership and integrity. Do you know the saying "Think globally; act locally"? It means that in your small way, you can change the world, through one example, one encouragement at a time. Good luck!
