M’s Answer

Yes. But talent comes in many forms. As an Art Director, you will need to be talented in communication, organization, human relations, record keeping, skilled in computer programs, and much more. No matter how talented you are, if you don't have any other necessary skills then you may struggle to be successful. There are many different paths you can take as an Art Director. Decide which one is right for you and go for it. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

Zachary’s Answer

Talent comes in many forms, although recognizing talent in others is sometimes a talent in and of itself. Whether team building, recognizing trends, having an eye for what is socially acceptable, likely to be appreciated and accepted, yes, some level of talent is required... I believe, to be successful, if consistent and contributing, through it all.

One should not expect immediate recognition, no, nor instantaneous results; however, commitment to learning new skills, refinement of those you have and learning to appreciate the talents of others is a fine way to cultivate and develop... I think. Best of luck!!!

Adhiragni’s Answer

I won't say talent per se, but you do need determination and a creative mind to visualise and execute on a concept.
If you put your mind and hard work, you can do absolutely anything. As an art director you could be working in theatre, TV and movie producers and directors. You should be able to divulge into designing, painting, engage in all kinds of art and articulate on the kind of project your working on and actually execute it.

Stephanie Stephen’s Answer

The art director makes decisions about visual elements, what artistic style(s) to use, and when to use motion.

Now that’s just a small bit of information about what an art director does and can do. But it’s enough to see, and understand that as an art director you have to have a fair understanding about a great many things including talent. That does not mean you have to have talent, but that you do have to know what talent is and to recognize it when you see it. It also means that you have to know how to use talent, to set a mood, atmosphere, motion and other things to convey a message in such a way that it is understood.

A good example of this can be seen in the movie 2001, with the first appearance of the monolith. As well as each appearance of the monolith in that movie. As the art director uses a wide variety of things to convey the importance of the monolith, as well as it’s message or rather the mystery of its message. Which requires a said amount of talent in its own right.
