[closed] How can someone use a reward system as a motivational tool in the office?

Hello,

I am currently studying business administration and management at Concordia University, and I am a senior. I have some general knowledge and experience that is limited to some extracurricular activities and academics. I know a thing or two about general business. In class my teachers mentioned how rewards and incentives can be used to get employers to work smarter and more diligently. For example, if I was a manager I would find room in a budget for throwing an office party so that those who perhaps may not be at their best would want to work better. Another example would be if I praised a leading employee for being the employee of the month and I handed him a gift card for a store. Are there any other motivational tools that I could use as a manger?

Hi,
Good question. I think there are a lot of reward systems that can be effective but it depends on different factors like the individual employees you are rewarding, the type of work you do, your company culture and your team. Everyone is so different and what motivates one person may not motivate someone else...example, I would be motivated by money/time off/recognition in that order where someone else may be motivated in a different order. One of my favorite motivators when I was in sales @ Dell was that we won points that could be used to purchase items via an online website--- we could select gift cards to stores, restaurants, movies, vacations, hotel stays as long as we had enough points that we could save for larger items or use each time we won them.
Good luck!
