Andy’s Answer

Brittany,

It depends on what state you are looking to become a police officer in. Each one has there own requirements in licensure. Here in Texas you are required to attend a 800 hour police academy graduate then pass the state licensing exam prior to working as a police officer.

Hilary’s Answer

The training you may use to become a police officer is different in states of the United States. Physical fitness and strength to carry a person’s weight is important to pass state exams. Education in law enforcement is also key. Many states may not hire recruits without a two year education. It is important to not have a felony record including some type of misdemeanors in your past. Once you are hired, depending on agency they will have you attend a course that is 8 weeks to 12 weeks. Each agency whether it is city, state or federal will have basic guidelines set for you to review including some physical testing events.

James’s Answer

Hello there. Whatever police department hires you will have you attend an academy that is either run by them or another agency. As for training that will help you beforehand, it is beneficial to work some jobs in law enforcement prior to being a police officer. A community services officer is an option. Loss Prevention is another. This will get you firsthand learning on how to detain, apprehend, and maintain relations with your community. All of those are useful skills.

Harold’s Answer

Becoming a police officer varies from state to state. You must meet the requirements for that particular jurisdiction. Another part is being physically fit with good upper body strength. Good luck.
