Dan’s Answer

I strong curiosity about things. Be good at math and science or have a strong desire to get better. It is always ok to not know how or struggle. But you will need drive to find people who will help and show you the way. Don't be afraid to ask dumb questions. There are no dumb questions.

Sam’s Answer

The only qualifications are that you must attend a college that has its engineering program accredited by ABET. Of course this also means that your grades, ACT/SAT test scores, and whatnot must meet the university's admission requirements. That's it: you just have to get accepted into a college with an ABET accredited engineering program

Kevin’s Answer

Strong STEM background and proficiency is important to understanding how to scope problems/issues/solutions and how to interpret results. Depending on the industry and role you end up in, it may or may not be heavily focused on math, lab testing, thermodynamics, mechanical design, or a number of other facets of engineering... but it will almost certainly involve understanding data and trade-offs of some sort (sometimes hard numbers, sometimes not), and a good engineer is somebody who has the experience and understanding of where that data came from and what it actually says, in order to make the best decision possible given what is known at that time.
