How to manage money while in college?

I'm a college student and I find myself running out of money frequently. I try to stay on a budget, but sometimes I need to go over it. Do you have any tips in how to manage money in a small budget? #student-loans #editing #video-editing #post-production #motion-pictures #budgets

Prioritize...Is this a true NEED or a want? What can you do with minimal efforts to increase your income? Tutor, work study, return recyclables? What are your "free" money options? Talk w financial aid at your school, don't be afraid to not accept no.....research loans, grants, scholarships and work study optio s outside of school. Check public libraries for catalogs of options. Don't procrastinate.....be proactive in the money making, and searching. On breaks.....use your skills to earn...wash cars, babysit, dog walk, tutor, donate plasma (I did to pay for text books 2nd semester). Is Übering or Lyft an option? Can you cut costs? Home hair colors? Beauty school cuts, pedis/Manis? Hope this helps. Take solace that your not the only. If you choose to make it through, these times will humble you

Andria’s Answer

make a list of what your expenses are. once you have that list prioritize the list. then do pros and cons of the list. it will help you put things into perspective on wants and needs. you will need to pay for your needed items first. then the want items you need to prioritize and stay on budget. if someone wants you to do something that is not in budget just say you can't. if you learn to manage a small budget now you will have more success in expenses later in life.

everyone has a budget so learn early as your life will be happy and healtier later.

Mark’s Answer

Hi Ursula,
Okay, you should consider what's important to live: Food, water, shelter, transportation. Then list them as priorities. Believe me, the middle-class people have troubles paying their monthly bills because of the rising prices and overspending of their credit loans. Also, pay attention to what are the part-time jobs which are available inside and near your university. You could take a look on a local newspaper or the Jobs Opening.com. Many of my friends worked as waitresses and waiters. One worked as a librarian assistant, and I worked as a janitor at the college. Best wishes, Mark Wagner

This is probably the hardest thing to do... I worked 3 jobs in college. First as college work study and then got promoted to college assistant, then as a video editor for a department that is part of the Research Foundation of the City of New York, and then I worked (and continue to do so) as a bartender.

There is no real trick just discipline and a lot practice and caffeine. But groceries instead of going out to eat, cook at home, if you have friends have potlucks... etc.
