Getting a degree in a data and/or business-related field is a great first step in preparing to become a Business Intelligence Analyst. Understanding data is crucial - any coursework or experience you can gain in data architecture, database design, data mining, querying in SQL, data visualization, etc. will be helpful.

In many companies, a BI Analyst is not an entry-level role, so getting an internship to gain hands-on experience, even in a BI Analyst-adjacent role like a Data Analyst or Business Analyst, would help get you get the experience necessary. If you have the means and desire to pursue a Master's degree (like a MBA), some employers may find that sufficient if you don't have a ton of experience.

I think you should do some research about what companies you are interested in going into, and study their mission to see if you like what they stand for. This is really important because this is the most different thing that will be inconsistent across companies
