Is Singapore a nice country to live and work as a physical therapist?

Is Singapore a nice country to live and work as a physical therapist? After graduating, I’m planning to go and work there since I really love Singapore.

Thank you comment icon There’s no real problem besides maybe the climate. Very humid there! Jason Chaing

Hi Tan,

Singapore is a wonderful place to live and continue your studies in physical therapy. You can find affordable housing, especially in HDB rental apartments. Plus, physical therapy is becoming more popular here thanks to an aging population, increased awareness, and active lifestyles. You can find PT services in public and private hospitals, specialized clinics, rehab centers, and nursing homes. There are lots of opportunities to explore. My daughter is also studying occupational therapy at a local university.

Good luck!

Singapore is a great place to live and work, if you treasure the upsides and can live with the challenges. The upsides are safety, convenience in most things (livelihood, government administration), options for cheap food, and sustenance, transport, low taxes. The challenges are getting non gig job, especially if you are a foreigner, the cost of housing, and weather (if hot and humid is not your thing!). Healthcare professionals are generally sought after, but it can also mean higher demand, longer working hours. Understand these trade-offs before making the decision - would also be great if you spend some time in Singapore and get engaged with the PT community here!

Hi Tan,
I am a USA PT. We have lots of co-workers who trained in the Philippines. You will have a good education. I don’t know anything about working in Singapore. When you move to another country with your PT license you will have to take extra steps to practice. The Singapore physical therapy association and the physical therapy licensing board will have information about steps to take to transfer your license. In the USA you have to take a language proficiency test, and submit your university transcripts to assure your classes match the USA requirements. I’m sure Singapore will have similar requirements for foreign trained PT’s.
Be sure to complete all your classes, graduate and take your boards in your home country before you move.

Hi Tan
I will be able to answer only part of your question about living in Singapore. Have been living here for almost 9 years and its the longest time I have lived in one country outside my country of birth (I have moved multiple times in my life for work) and Singapore is by far a great place to live in for multiple reasons including Safety, clean, hospitable and stable. its a great place to have a good and safe time with friends and family and also a great place for education. finally, if you love outdoors and greenery, this is the place to be with lots of free national parks and trails

all the best

Singapore is awesome!
I'm sure you've been here - the food can be cheap, housing /rentals can be expensive so see how you can look into shared housing in HDBs. Make friends :) Everyone will take care of you, We may seem cold at first, but we're really soft-hearted folks and will help when you need it.

For our healthcare industry, i have a couple of friends who are physiotherapists. i believe they feel pressured to always do things the right way but the seniors ahve been really nice to help and coach them, as long as you take the initiative to ask and be proactive! :) Nothing wrong with asking for help. Always remember, better to ask than doing something wrongly!
