Hi Kamaria,

To be a good Virtual Assistant you will need a few key skills such as good communication and time management skills, you should be self-motivated and have strong organizational skills to stay on top of assignments. Being proficient in Microsoft Office word, excel and PowerPoint will also be useful. Take free online courses to enhance your skill set, these courses will help get a head-start on some of the fundamental skills you need to grow in your career. Search the internet for free programs, try Edx, SkillUp, Udemy or online learning with Coursera these are just a few examples.

Hey Kamaria! Great question! Customer service based skills are going to be the best fit for a Virtual Assistant based position. They'll likely need someone who is familiar with working in a fast paced environment as virtual assistants are often given many tasks, some even before completing others. Additionally, theyll need someone who is highly organized with great attention to detail, someone who is a self starter and would likely be able to complete tasks independently, a great speaker/communicator and someone who can handle difficult clients/customers with a high level of professionalism. Virtual assistants are usually tasked with everything from handling a person's communications to scheduling and tracking their appointments, booking travel, organizing their day to day calendars, etc. so keep this in mind. I find that people who have had experience in customer facing roles in addition to child care (like a nanny or babysitter) often make great virtual assistants!
