How emotionally straining is pediatric nursing?

It sounds like an amazing profession and one I would love doing considering my passion for helping kids. However, I’m worried it would be to emotionally straining. Is there certain areas such as ER vs general hospital nursing that are less emotionally straining?

Nursing takes a large toll on you emotionally, regardless of the area you are going to work in. Some of the stress is mild. The large stressors like abuse and neglect all the way to death may be difficult to avoid. I felt that working with children was the most difficult. A strong support system and belief to fall back on may help. Emergency Department would be the most difficult to work in emotionally.. Dealing with families can be draining , considering how stressful being in the hospital can be. Emotions can also run high with coworkers and other hospital staff, including Doctors. Shadowing in the health care system could help you make up your mind. Nursing and health care is extremely stressful mentally and emotionally.
