Dr. Dennis’s Answer

If you enroll in a computer science degree, you will definitely get the required classes. The most important is not even classes but be able to get some internship at a software company when you are in college. This will provide you valuable experiences and will definitely help you when you apply for a full time computer science position.

Lionel’s Answer

Well certainly computer classes, paying special attention to theory, not just programming. Databases and Data and programming patterns and algorithms would be helpful. Applied math and statistics, logic (philosophy), some EE courses, especially as it comes to computer and network designs. In our future world, digital security as well.

Richard’s Answer

Great question, the curriculum of classes for a computer science degree will vary based on the school you attend (geography, etc.), but most programs will include the following for a four year degree in computer science:
- Core classes. These are typically classes such as English, Math, Science, History)
- Core Computer classes (programming, algorithms, more Math, etc.). This will vary based on your focus area.
- Electives. These are classes you can take in areas that interest you. This can be additional Computer classes or something complete orthogonal such as Music Theory.

Also, you can adjust your course choices each term to fit your specific computer science focus. Hope this helps and good luck!

Richard recommends the following next steps:

Search online for computer science curriculum to find examples or look at specific college examples.
Internships are a great way to get hands on experience early to confirm you career choice and companies are often interested in helping you learn the field.
