how does it work to become a model?

why i'm asking this question is because when I grow up I either want to be a model or a chef. It all depends though because a person can have more than one job but that one job might take up all your time but I can be a chef and still study and take classes for model and start doing that interesting stuff. #Modeling #fashion #apparel-and-fashion

Sara’s Answer

I strongly encourage you to study cooking before modeling! Modeling is pretty glamorous from the outside, but when your body becomes your business, working out 5-7 days a week, maintaining your weight strictly, and caring for your skin are requirements. A thick skin is important too, because designers aren’t always kind, and photographers can be unpleasant too. A good headshot and shoot can be expensive, but like another poster mentioned, any agency that asks you for money is likely a scam.

Having a career to pay the bills while you are trying for modeling is an excellent idea. thats not to say all chefs are kind, but they tend to fuss about something you do, not something you are.

Modeling can be a very difficult industry to break into. The first thing you need to do is find an agent. Anyone asking you for money is not a legitimate agent. You can find books of modeling agencies. Most will ask for a headshot and potentially a resume. Look at their submission policies and take it from there. Also, many will look for top modeling agencies in NYC, but don't exclude some of the local smaller agencies to start out.

Hi Aionia, unfortunately, I really can't offer you a lot of information about modelling, though Michelle's reply is a start. See if you can attend a fashion show and at the end try to talk with someone afterwards. Or contact a few agencies to get their advice. I remember working behind the scenes of a show years ago...the audience has no idea of what goes on behind the curtains- getting each model ready with the right clothing and accessories. Pursue what you love!! Best- Nancy
