Hi Destiny:

According to U.S. News & World Report, here is a link to the Best Colleges and Universities for a Computer Science major:

- Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Stanford University
- University of California (Berkeley)
- Carnegie Mellon University
- University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)
- University of Washington
- Cornell University
- Georgia Institute of Technology
- Princeton University
- University of Texas (Austin)

When reviewing colleges and universities, it is best to check the following:

- In-State vs Out of State Tuition
- Internships
- Scholarships
- Career Placement upon graduation
- Course work and offered classes
- Post-Graduate Degrees - Master and Doctoral

Scholarship applications can start to be submitted during your Junior year and will continue throughout your Senior year in high school. It is best to ask your Academic Advisor/School Counselor on the timeline process as well. Scholarship applications will have specific deadlines and requirements to meet in order to be submitted for review and consideration.

You may want to start to compile your resume/portfolio since a majority of scholarship applications will require academic grade point average (GPA), academic accomplishments, school activities (clubs, sports, etc.), community involvement (volunteer, church, etc.), academic and personal recommendations, etc. There may be essay requirements on why you are a qualified candidate to receive the scholarship, what your future goals are academically and professionally and other questions centering around who you are, your beliefs, etc.

Here are a couple of links for College Scholarships:

Also, it will be best to check with the colleges and universities that you will be applying to. You can check with the School/Department of your desired major, the Campus Career Center and the Register's Office for additional information for college scholarships and grants and specific requirements for qualifications.

Best wishes for your education and career path in Computer Science!

Hello, Destiny !

I would be happy to discuss colleges to consider for a Computer Science degree. It is difficult to say which one is "best" because what would be best for one person may not be a school you'd like. You will have to make a choice about what location you want to study in and how much of a financial budget you have. You can always visit the campuses first hand and form your opinion which will help you choose the best college.

Mansfield Commonwealth University offers both an Associates and Bachelors Program at their school for a Computer and Information Science or Computer Information Systems major.

According to Universities.com, some of the "best" schools for computer science in Texas are: Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A & M, Baylor University, University of Texas at El Paso, Texas State University, San Marcos, University of Houston-Clear Lake, West Texas A & M University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

What you will need to do to find the absolute one that you think is best for you is to read about each college and compare notes about what they offer in their computer science program, courses that are offered, their specific required courses, tuition and whichever ones you can visit I would say go for an orientation to become familiar with the campus first hand.

You are the only one who will know which option is for you and I wish you all the best at school and in your computer science studies !

Your question says it is coming from Mansfield. Assuming that is Mansfield, Oh, If you are looking for a really good computer-science, and general overall science and well-rounded education I would suggest OSU. If you are in Mansfield, PA, I seriously recommend Penn State.

Al recommends the following next steps:

Check out the school's website, and request information from them.

Fred’s Answer

There is no answer to this question. Everybody has different needs/requirements that come into play. School size, location, activities, cost, scholarships, reputation, and many other factors all matter. What good is knowing MIT has the best program if you can't afford it? Or don't want to face brutal New England winters?

What if you want to stay in-state - or the opposite, and go far from home? All these factors matter. And to be honest, what school you go to matters a lot less than people think. It may help you get your first job, but after that, it's your work and your personality that matter more. (this is just my opinion).

Don't focus on what someone else says is "best". Pay attention to all the above factors (and there are probably more), and weigh the benefits/costs of each to help you make your decision.

Umang’s Answer

Renowned educational institutions like MIT, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard University, and the University of California, Berkeley, are celebrated for their robust computer science programs. However, a multitude of other institutions also provide top-notch computer science education.

The perfect college for you hinges on your individual goals, tastes, and situation. Therefore, it's crucial to thoroughly investigate and, if feasible, tour colleges. This will enable you to make a well-informed decision that matches your academic ambitions and career goals.
