Hi Maricela, this is a great question. Everyone has their own unique studying style. What may work well for one person may not work well for another. I recommend trying out a few different strategies and see what feels best or seems most successful for you personally. Some people learn and retain information better watching a video on some topic versus reading about the topic. Another thing to consider is your study environment. Are you able to focus better around other people (say, in a library or cafe), or are you more focused when you are in a quiet, solitary environment? Finally, if motivation to study is something you are struggling with, remember to take breaks and reward yourself when you make progress!

I personally like to have music playing in the background but some people have to have silence.

I like to sit in a comfortable spot while others like to sit at a desk to focus better.

Get good highlighters. When you read for school highlight the important words and sentences.
Go and make an outline of what you just highlighted. To prepare for tests make a outline of the first outline. Try to boil the information to the least number of words. Then do the process one last time on flash cards.
By writing something 3 times most people retain 75-90 percent of the new information.
I would read the assignment and have my notes from class. After reading the assignment and highlighting the important passages you will never have to waste time reading all words, by making the outline you really are done with that part of the book.
As class progresses your outline will grow. Once a month make a new outline.
That is how I graduated first in my class at Stanford then attained a JD and an MBA in finance and was first in my class.
My method seems like too much work but after the first year it will be less time consuming. The longer you are in school the easier it becomes.
I went to college and was very competitive with grades. Additionally I wanted to make a lot of money. After 4 years on the floor of the New York stock exchange the thrill was gone and I went to law school to study taxation and read estate.
