For me , you can start a business as young as you could work on what kind of business you may like. It's just time management and your willingness to have then continue what business you did choose having enough profits. I'm just a humble small store owner in my place.

When I lived in League City, TX, there was a young man from my church who started a lawn care business while in high school. It started with a need he saw - people needed their lawns mowed and cared for. He borrowed his dad's mower and started getting clients. He mowed grass for a fair price. After about a year, he had his own equipment, employees, and was making bank! I believe he actually sold his business when he went off to college for a lot of money.

If you have you have the desire and discipline and idea, it's never too early. You can always start small as the young man from my story did. He kept investing in his company. He did hard work that he was proud of for a good, fair price. His customers were happy.

Things to consider:
1. Do you see a need that is not being met that you could actually meet with a business?
2. Do you have an idea that answers a current need?
3. Can you start small and work your way up?

Obviously, there are financial concerns to think through and cost/value add things to work through based on the simplicity/complexity to what you are wanting to do. As well, you will need to think through getting a CPA for tax purposes. I hope this helps to just get you thinking of the possibilities.

Terry’s Answer

Starting a business is a very big undertaking! There is no 'best time' to start a business. That time will come when someone is prepared. Being prepared will involve identifying the need for the business, having the knowledge and skills to create a product or service, having a business plan, including legal and accounting in the business set up and most importantly, the desire and drive to run a business. I personally don't own a business, but my husband has for over 30 years. While it is a ton of work, it can be very rewarding! Do your research and talk to others who own a business to get their input, that type of advice can be invaluable.

Rose’s Answer

I think the best time to start a business is any time that you have completed all the research and footwork needed to make sure you are ready. Great ideas do not have time frames of when is 'the best time" and sometimes, if we wait too long -- someone else could beat you to the idea. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that anything is possible. My biggest advice is to:
Talk to other small business owners - get advice, suggestions, ideas
Reasearch all the risks and costs associated with the business
Look into the industry for others who might be doing the same thing and leverage their experience
Make a business plan
Save up money or find investors to help with the initial investment
Don't be afraid to take calculated risks and ask for help when needed

Good luck !!

Tammy’s Answer

Consider these questions: Are you truly passionate about the service you aim to offer or the product you aspire to create? Are you prepared to devote the necessary time and effort to kick-start your venture? It's a bonus if your product or service meets a need, bridges a gap, or solves a problem. Depending on your business concept, why not give it a trial run among your friends and family to gauge their interest?

Take inspiration from a story close to home: A young boy in my neighborhood, inspired by a movie about a child entrepreneur, asked his father if he could start a business. Despite being only seven, his father supported his ambition. They began on a small scale, setting achievable goals, which the boy consistently surpassed. Over time, they expanded their venture into a registered non-profit organization, gaining media attention and making a significant impact on the community.

So, remember, regardless of your age, experience, or background, if you possess the passion and determination, you can certainly launch your venture when you feel ready. Don't hold back thinking you need to have everything figured out from the start.

Tammy recommends the following next steps:

Figure out what steps you can take to get started and then give it a go!
Perhaps research what others did in a similar situation to get started. Talk to other business owners to ask what they did to get started.
Take business classes that may help in any area where you may need to learn more.
