What was the field you wanted to go into during high school and how did that change as life progressed?

10th grade business. Just a high schooler doing this so I can get a big assignment done so please respond because that would be very appreciated by me. Thank you!

I graduated High School wanting to become a Doctor. I applied to Universities that all had great pre-med undergraduate programs but had an epiphany during my first year of University. I suddenly realized that this career path wasn't for me. Thankfully I had been taking an elective in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This was my first exposure to the "power of computers" and made me realize that this is something that I enjoyed doing and learning about. I soon switched by major and focused on this. Post graduation I continued my journey and completed a certification in GIS and was able to complete a co-op project accordingly. This then allowed me to land my first full-time job and the rest is history. My advice to you is keep your options open and always ask yourself what you enjoy doing.

During high school, I really enjoyed STEM courses - Chemistry, Physics and Math were my favorite subjects!
So I wanted to put those together and make sure I would follow a major that combined these subjects. At first I thought I could be an astrophysicist because I loved the idea of studying astronomy and was fascinated by the universe!
I quickly realize how scarce career opportunities in that field were in my home country, so I turned to Chemical Engineering given my love for Chemistry and the much better career prospects at my home country! I am glad I did because I enjoyed the course so much that I ended up getting a PhD in the field years later. I feel like that was the right choice for me because it combined my interests and also provided me with so many career opportunities.

When I was in high school we all had to choose a "path" and I chose business. I took a marketing class as part of that pathway and HATED it. I swore I'd never touch anything that had to do with marketing ever again. And I meant it. After high school, I wanted nothing to do with business at all and felt that way for many years. But about 2 years ago I realized that I do in fact have a love for business and marketing.
When you are in high school you may not have a clue about what you might want to choose as your career, and that's fine. When you're a teenager you're still figuring out life and finding out who you are and what you're best suited for. You will probably change your mind many times before finding the thing you want to turn into a career. I'm 32 and just now know what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. Feel it out and take your time if you need to.

I have always loved writing, so I applied to colleges as an English or writing major. I knew I didn't want to be a teacher, so I went into a Professional Writing/Journalism major. I learned very quickly that I loved professional writing like marketing writing and technical writing, but being a reporter wasn't for me. I added on minors in marketing and communications and after college pursued a career in the marketing field. My passion for writing has always been a valuable asset to hiring managers and colleagues alike.

My dream was to own a hunting ranch where I could cook the game my guests bagged on their adventures. To that end, I pursued a degree in Hospitality Management and further honed my culinary skills at a prestigious Culinary school. I spent over ten fruitful years as a professional chef, running my own restaurant and offering my expertise as a consultant. Later in life, I found a new passion and returned to school to study Computer Information Systems. This led me to a rewarding career in the tech field that has spanned almost three decades. Life, in my experience, is a beautiful tapestry that you weave with your choices, and I've relished every moment of my journey. If I could alter one thing, it would be to immerse myself more fully in every engagement. Being present in every moment is an investment that yields rich dividends in the future.

In high school, I really wanted to own my own warehouse and do online sales out of it. I don't have a warehouse but at 25 own an embroidery business where I work with different brands and individual customers. To fund those dreams I work as a business analyst and have found there are also a lot of great opportunities in working for a large company or smaller startups.

Talk to people who have a job you might like
focus your education around getting that job.
look for internships as soon as possible
Don't get discouraged! We all have greatness in us so don't let getting a no make you feel less valuable.

In high school, I really loved English class. But I didn't want to major in English because I thought the only jobs were teaching and journalism. I was also really interested in technology and took some computer programming classes. But while I liked working with technology, I didn't like coding it. Fast forward, I eventually got a job working in technical support. I really liked working with the technology but I did eventually not like the hours. I then found out about technical writing! I wish I had know about this field while in school. I went back for a Master's degree in English specializing in Technical Communication (this is now something you can do at a Bachelor's level in many places). I now combine two interests I had in high school, English & technology, into one job that I really, really like.

Your assignment sounds super exciting! Back when I was in 10th grade, I had my sights set on working for a global consumer brand. However, as I progressed through college and started looking for my first job, I realized that my interest wasn't really in consumer goods. What I was truly passionate about was the idea of international business trips that would allow me to explore the world.

While I did enjoy consumer goods, I didn't necessarily want to build a career around it. Instead, I found myself drawn towards understanding the direction of the global economy and the areas where companies were investing their resources. This curiosity led me to the world of Finance, which I found incredibly fascinating.

After spending 7 years in the Finance sector, I decided to go to business school. Today, I'm working as a management consultant. Life is full of surprises, isn't it? You never really know where you might end up!
