Rick S.’s Answer

In general, I found my courses for my International Business degree at Boise State were very engaging and most of the instructors had come from various business fields before academia. In many classes, there are group projects to work on, which has translated well into my corporate experience, since I've worked on many projects over the years and you will benefit from doing these things in a class environment before entering the workforce.

Rick S. recommends the following next steps:

If you are still in high school, go to a local community college or university and see if a professor will let you speak to them about their courses, or even sit in on one if possible. This is the best way to get a feel for how students and professors interact on a normal basis.

Carolyn’s Answer

I found my business classes at Goizueta Businesse School at Emory University to be more engaging than my college courses.  Business courses are usually highly interactive and participatory.  Participation grades, group assignments/projects, and class discussion are key components of business courses.  It can take more coordination and organization since you often have to meet with other student to finish assignments.  If you don't love to participate, raise your hand for every question you know the answer to until you get called on.  This sounds counter-intuitive, but business professors are known for cold calling on students for answers and are much much less likely to cold call on you if you already answered a question (that you knew the answer to).

Carolyn recommends the following next steps:

Research the difference between a BBA and a BA/BS in Business
Consider if you want to go to a 2 year (liberal arts and business school) or 4 year business school
