Plan....plan....plan! Before you do anything, lay out your plan. Think about what your desired end result is, what steps you need to do to get there, and also be aware of what could happen to derail you and what you can do ton put things back on track. It works in work, real-life, as well as any project of any length. It also helps you with clear goals. The only caution is do not get too caught up on the lists and if you stray - invest time, but not too much, in creating these and do not get frustrated if you stray. Learn to fix it on the fly!

Specifically, some things that I have found in terms of working smarter is prioritizing the items that will give you the largest return on your time. That is a very important question and my curiosity prompts me to explore this. You want to know why you must work hard. Can you define that ? Are you comparing yourself with others or do you find large amounts of work overwhelming ? Asking this question will provide you the ability to understand yourself more and perhaps be on the way to personal growth.

Actually, you don't have to do anything, just be yourself. If you have any cognitive difficulties that you may have discovered, there are many places that provide great support for that. If that isn't the case, than you must lay out the pros and cons of not fully engaging in whatever you do. Is this question about working for school, around the house, socially, employment ? Write out what you think will happen if you give things half the energy required. Also write out the results of working with full attention and studying things until you understand them. What happens with people when they excel at their job ? What is the result of accomplishing chores around your home ? What happens when a person skips school or doesn't study for an exam ? Think about it and you may get your answer. It's all in the result. Find your pace and take things a step at a time.

There are drawbacks to not taking work or activities seriously. You will come up with your own answers as to why you must work hard, that would be your best level, and your unique contribution will be appreciated !

This is a great question! I think sometimes we think to ourselves that by working smart that we won't have to work hard. That's not the case at all. But there are things that perhaps feel like we are working harder because maybe we don't like what we do. I think that it's important to take a look at what you are doing and evaluating whether you feel like you are efficiently addressing that work. If you feel that you are not and certain tasks are taking too long - see if there's anything that you can do to improve your process so that you can complete quality work at a pace that does not take as long. When you identify how to do this, if you like what you do, you probably won't like working hard. But one of the reasons why it's important to work hard is so that you can be proud of yourself. When you put your best foot forward and your best effort forward and you work hard, it makes you feel more fulfilled. And if you're not feeling that way, again, it might be best to evaluate whether you like what you are doing. And also ask yourself what you would like to be doing instead of working hard.

Hi Joel. I would like to take a stab at answering your question. From my perspective, you should work really hard to be able to work really smart. School, independent learning, and understanding what others do will allow you to work smart. Let me see if I can illustrate this using a simple example. You need to buy groceries and supplies for a non-profit you are volunteering for. For the most part, this non-profit needs the same supplies every three months. You can either take the bus to the store, spend three hours walking from aisle to aisle getting the items on the list, deliver them to those that need them or you can use an app to purchase items already saved to your favorites and have them sent to where you need them. Life experience and technology expertise gave you the ability to work smart not hard. You work smart by always thinking of ways to decrease the time and effort you spend on any given task that will give you an acceptable result. Hope this helps.

This is a wonderful question for growth. It is a questions without a single answer. For me, working smarter is often about limiting distractions. To identify what is a distraction, one must first define their ultimate goals. My suggestion would be to identify what the end goal is of the task, the project, the education path, or even your career. Once that is established, one can eliminate things that do not help toward the end goal. With the goals in hand, others who have completed those goals can be identified. Partnering with people that have completed the goals already can assist in achieving the goal you have. This type of prep work can help in the journey of working smarter not harder. This question is a great one. Sometimes people mistake working hard with working smart. Folk can be 'busy', without accomplishing much. I would say working smarter is developing an appreciation of time. Time is one attribute that many of us take for granted. As a result, we lack the discipline to be organized, 'stay' ready, and position ourselves to take advantage of opportunities presented. I do believe there is a level of focus required when attempting to accomplish something you are interested in. If you apply that focus, discipline, within the time management parameters you set, then that is working smart and by nature it's working hard, which is a great thing to address both.
