What classes could I take so I can get the feeling of how the medical field and medical careers are?

I want to get into the medical field, and I don’t know where to start. I don’t know what I could be and I am aware that there’s a lot of medical stuff, such as a doctor, physician assistant, anesthesiologist, and more. And I will say that anesthesiologist does interest me but i’m not sure… so, what classes could I take so I can get the feeling of how the medical field is ? Like in college. I’m still young and i might be un sure but I want to see how it is.

Hi, Kimberly! I applaud your interest in the medical field and wish you the best! You should take plenty of science courses, biology, anatomy and physiology. Look for free courses online, too. Do check into volunteering at a hospital or clinic in some capacity. Check out laboratory medicine, too. In some clinics you might be able to perform "waived" testing with a high school diploma and on the job training. That would be a good start, the field is in need of workers and it's a great step to anything in the medical field.
May you go far and have a positive impact on Healthcare.

I would say anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, or other related courses that your school may offer. I would also say volunteer at a hospital or some medical office so you can kind of get a feel for the medical environment.

If you are unsure of which field or position you want, Medical Assistant can be a great place to start. There are apprenticeship programs now that will get you college credits and certification while paying you and they help you find a field that interests you.
I know many Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practioners, and several doctors (MD and DO) who all started out as Medical Assistants then moved up from there. At least 3 that I know of had no intention in becoming practitioners until they worked as MAs for a few years. MAs work in a variety of fields with various providers so you can get a taste of what you might want to move on to, or even stay an MA it's a great career in my mind.
Just another option to consider.

There's no class, or classes that you can take that will give you any idea what is like to be in a medical job. Just like taking a math class won't show you what its like to be a physics professor.

I recommend you volunteer at a hospital. There's usually a coordinator for volunteers to talk to at most hospitals. Once you're there, talk with whoever you can! See a nurse/MA/tech/PA/MD who isn't busy or exhausted looking?

Try saying hi, I'm a volunteer here and I'm trying to decide what healthcare career I want to do!

Then start peppering them with questions until they're busy again or you start to annoy them.

You'll also get to actually SEE what this person does at work. If you're super lucky and not annoying, someone might let you tag along with themfor a while. Just make sure you still get your volunteer duties done!

And don't be disappointed if you're brushed away or dismissed -even rudely perhaps- as some of them will be rushed, tired, stressed, preoccupied, or a combination of all.
