Aqeel’s Answer

Begin seeking summer internships immediately - gaining experience is crucial for securing a job.

Start building connections on platforms such as LinkedIn - initiate conversations with recruiters.

If you're interested in major corporations like Amazon or Salesforce, aim to earn certifications on their platforms. This will significantly boost your chances.

Shreya’s Answer

Angel provided some valuable tips for securing internships, and I'd like to expand on the aspect of gaining experience. In my view, one of the best strategies is to contribute to open-source codebases on GitHub. This platform offers ample opportunities for meaningful work, and there's no better way to demonstrate your commitment than by making contributions. Navigating large open-source codebases and understanding the issues you need to address is a skill in itself. This also allows you to connect with professionals in the field and gain visibility.

Furthermore, as a student, I strongly suggest reaching out to your professors for project opportunities. They often need assistance and would be happy to bring you on board. The same applies to internal university websites and projects. Best of luck!

Hello Vincent,

Along with the fantastic advice you've already received, I'd love to share my top three tips on how you can further enhance your coding skills and open up more opportunities:

1.) Join coding contests where you can collaborate with a team to create a solution. Numerous events sponsored by various companies and organizations are available. You can easily find these gatherings (both in-person and online) with a quick internet search. As a university student, you're qualified to join an event currently being organized by IBM, which runs until October this year. Here's the link for more details:

2.) Lend your expertise to some open source projects to display your coding prowess:

==> https://www.linuxfoundation.org/projects/call-for-code
==> https://github.com/Call-for-Code

3.) Acquire digital badges that you can proudly present to potential employers:

I hope these suggestions help you in your journey to becoming a proficient coder. Happy coding, Vincent!

Angel’s Answer

Hey Vincent,

I would suggest you start searching for an internship. There are plenty of both paid and unpaid opportunities available online, or you might want to check if your college has any connections with local businesses who may be searching for someone with your skillset. When you're applying, make sure to create an engaging cover letter that showcases your skills, projects, and experiences that are relevant to the role. Don't forget to include any relevant coursework, internships, or personal projects that highlight your software engineering skills. Keep it short and sweet, but make sure it's thorough - focus on what you've achieved and the results you've generated.
