How can I manage my time in college?

I'm the type to procrastinate all my works to later on since I tend to have a lot of free time and I want to do other stuff before working. I want to know how I can use the time I have more wisely when I transfer out of high school to college. #time-management

Hi Erin!

This is a great question because being organized and managing time in college is very important. One thing you could do is get a planner. Write down all of your classes and other mandatory activities and this will help you view how much time you have for homework and studying. Allocating a specific day and time for your work can make you plan and feel responsible for doing it at that time. Set aside a certain amount of time, maybe 1-2 hours, a day for you to get work done.

When I was in college I found I was most productive in between classes. If I had a class from 10-11 am and my next class was 1-2 pm, I would use that 2-hour block to get things done. Before you leave for class that day, look over all your courses and get an idea of what you could work on during this time. Also, being on campus, rather than being at home, limits the amount of distractions you may have when studying.

Overall, you do have to stay motivated yourself. Keep in mind your goals for each specific course and the GPA you want to obtain in order to stay on track.

Hope this helps!

You will need to focus on stress and time management. In order to manage stress you have to manage your time wisely. You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).

Hi Erin!

Here are some helpful tips that my colleagues and I have put together.

- Helps to break your studying/work into manageable chunks so it's not so daunting.
- Hardest subject first
- Use the 50/10 rule: study/work for 50 minutes, take a break for 10!

Good luck with your transition!
