Sport has grown a lot over time, so many career possibilities exist. I recommend trying to do some job shadowing and volunteering to see what types of tasks are the most satisfying for you. For example, you might try event planning, coaching, management, sales, communications, and public relations.
A college degree that allows for breadth in coursework also will help you explore options. You may discover that your strengths match up well with the business side of sport, or you could find that you enjoy encouraging people in their recreational pursuits. Look for a university that emphasizes hands-on learning through informational interviews and internships to gain experience in the field.
Given the changes that can be expected in the future, it is smart to be prepared with several interests. Develop your skills, network with professionals, and choose an initial path with confidence. If you stay flexible, a number of different areas within sport can be blended together for a fulfilling career!

Hello Ashley!!
Sports Management is an umbrella of different career paths that can offer skills and experiences you are seeking! Especially if you are a people person, a team oriented person, and someone who is goal oriented.
Most "sports management" jobs require you to work with people or around people. Why? Because in sports organizations, there is a common goal to improve, to win, to succeed, and to accomplish! Although losing a big part of the game, what is the organization doing as whole to continue to win and create experiences? It takes strong collaboration, communication, commitment, and energy to perform (as a group especially). The question is if you can get everyone to perform on the same level!
A little about me, I have worked in Sports Performance (1 on 1 and group training with athletes); physical therapy (1 on 1 with patients); personal training (1 on 1 with clients); teaching/coaching (1 on 1 and group); and events (around athletes, staff, and fans)!
1. Start with figuring out what career paths in sports interest you!
2. Look at volunteering or doing a few internships in sports (events, coaching, admin, etc.).
3. See where some of the career paths can take you! For example, Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer, Sports Management Professor, Event Manager, etc.).
4. See if these experiences and potential career paths match your core values!
Know that working in sports/athletics requires you to work long days, but know they are a lot of fun and very fulfilling! It is a great feeling knowing you were able to bring a group of people together or give people an experience to remember!
Ultimately, if you invest your time and energy in the right places, good things will happen; and opportunities will come!
Wishing you the best in 2025!
