Cathie’s Career Stories

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

I am a Product Manager. I write requirements and set the strategic building blocks for a product. A product manager is the person who identifies the customer need and the larger business objectives that a product or feature will fulfill, and articulates what success looks like for a product, and rallies a team to turn that vision into a reality. So basically what customers are asking for in an application - the Product Manager tries to identify and build the software to match the need. Also a Product Manager is responsible for the ongoing care and feeding of the Product. We take care of the product making sure that all functionality works as expected. If that product needs something new to "feed" it and make it better or more updated - then we will write the requirements and update it to the new version. In a nutshell - basic definition: A product manager is a professional role that is responsible for the development of products for an organization, known as the practice of product management. Product managers own the product strategy behind a product, specify its functional requirements, and manage feature releases.
