What are some ways to live cheaply at a Californian university?

I'm moving from Texas to attend San Jose State University, but my father keeps warning me about how much more expensive California is than Houston. I want to know some tips on saving money since I don't want to stress my family out about expenses. Tips on making money would also be appreciated. #college #money #college-advice

Take as many AP or IB courses in high school. Getting college credit in high school can save you time and money. Take basic courses at your local community college during the summer as long as they transfer to your university. You could potentially decrease your time in college by a year or more. That would save money and get you into the work force sooner.

There are good ways to control college costs and manage you time to allow for a good balance of study time, social time, and work time. Below are some good tips. If you have to work, it would be a good idea to talk to your academic adviser, the head of your major area, and the financial aid office to find a job on campus. Also, talk to the Director of Alumni Relations to arrange to talk to graduates who graduated in your career area of interest to get their advice and see about working in your area of career interest.
