Hi Zoe - -great question! Unfortunately, there's no straight answer for this question because there are so many different possible careers for lawyers. There are public sector lawyers, which means they work for various government agencies (think Prosecutors, Attorneys General, and other government lawyers, as well as public defenders). Lawyers in these fields tend to be paid less than lawyers in other fields (although there may be other great benefits for public employees, as well as personal reasons why this might be a very satisfying career). Lawyers who work in law firms also have very varied salaries -- depending on factors such as the city/location where they work, the size of the firm, and whether they are defense or plaintiff side lawyers. Lawyers at very big firms in very big cities tend to make a lot of money -- especially once they become partners and then have an ownership interest in the firm and/or get paid part of the money that clients pay to the firm. One last category as an example is in-house lawyers -- lawyers who work as employees of a company. Again, depending on the size of the company, these can be very well-paying jobs, especially when bonuses are factored in.
Sorry if that wasn't a straight-forward answer, but I hope it helps!

Hey Zoe! 🌟 Great question about lawyer salaries. While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer (since there are so many different types of lawyers and factors that affect salary), here’s a general breakdown:
### 1. **Public Sector Lawyers** (e.g., prosecutors, public defenders)
- **Salary Range**: $50,000 – $80,000 per year.
- These salaries can vary based on location and government budgets. Public sector roles tend to offer lower pay but may come with great job stability and benefits.
### 2. **Private Law Firm Lawyers** (e.g., associates and partners)
- **Salary Range**:
- **Junior Lawyers (Associates)**: $70,000 – $150,000 per year, depending on the size of the firm and location.
- **Senior Lawyers / Partners**: $200,000+ per year, especially in large firms in big cities. In major firms, once you become a partner, you can earn a portion of the firm's revenue, which can lead to a much higher income.
### 3. **In-House Lawyers** (working for companies)
- **Salary Range**: $100,000 – $250,000 per year (or more with bonuses).
- Companies pay well, especially for experienced legal professionals. Bonuses and stock options can further increase compensation.
Let me tell you that salaries can vary quite a bit based on where you work, the type of law you practice, and your experience level. But if you’re aiming for the big bucks, working at a large firm or as an in-house counsel for a major company could really pay off. 💸
Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you have more questions.
