Fracking is now pretty developed, but there's always the possibility for further advances in it. That said, if you are a student today I would definitely not focus in on anything without applications outside of the soon-to-whither field of petroleum engineering! Fracking technology has applications in geothermal energy and other types of resource extraction (helium, mining), and that's where its future lies. Learn fracking from the petroheads, by all means, but don't expect to be one of them as a long-term career. Good luck!
Read up on how fracking is being used outside of fossil fuel extraction, for example in helium mining (https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-environment/2021/05/16/helium-mines-could-lift-arizona-economy-but-locals-fear-effects/7113083002/)
