Do you have to have certain qualifications for Ultrasound Tech, or do you get two years of college and that's it?
In regular nursing, you have to get your RN, ADN, or BSN. Is it the same for all nursing fields?

Hi Holly,
Ultrasound technician (or medical sonographer) is an excellent medical career with good employment prospects. In Ohio you need at least an Associates degree as an aspiring medical sonographer (2 years). Shorter certificate programs exist for people who already work in healthcare. You can also get a bachelors degree (4 years) which would offer you more options for advancement and higher positions.
You want to make sure that the school you attend is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). I left some links for you below. Getting into a program often requires certain pre-requisites in math and science. When you have completed the program, you can take the certification exam for Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) from ARDMS - and you are ready to go to work.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!
