What is the best portfolio layout for 2025 – portrait, landscape, or square? #2025
I’m an interior designer from Thailand with 5+ years of experience. I’ve been living in Denver, CO, and currently looking for drafting/interior-related positions in the U.S.
I’m updating my portfolio this year and wondering: what’s the best layout in 2025—portrait, landscape, or square?
I’d like my portfolio to work well across different formats:
- Sending as a PDF
- Uploading to websites or job platforms
- Presenting during interviews (online or in person)
- Possibly printing it
If anyone has advice or has seen what works best lately, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Tantat,
This is a good question when it comes to creating a presentation or portfolio of your projects. I don't think there should be just one layout that you must follow, but instead, think about the images that you will use for the portfolio. This way, if you have mainly landscape images, it'll be better to go with a landscape layout, and vice versa. If you have many different images of multiple projects, which include circle, round, landscape images, there's still plenty of ways to make them work. The key is to know how to organize the images so they tell a story from the ideation, to color choices, to the designing. Once you have the images lay out, it's easier to pick out the layout of the portfolio, so they are cohesive, you just need to make sure the size and layout of the portfolio allow the images to be as detailed and high resolution as possible, and it won't cut out any crucial part of the renderings.

I think I would prefer it to be in a portrait form because it would be viewed as a document and /or as a soft copy.

That is really a style choice and either should be fine. What is more important is the CLARITY, NAVIGATION, EASE OF USE that allows user to find your work quickly. I've seen portfolios where you can't figure how to navigate between the work because they are designed to be clever and "artistic" - don't fall into that trap. Keep it clean and simple.
