This is so so important, because ultimately, you'd hope that the point of your career is to support your growth in your personal life! I think this starts with having an accurate sense of what's important to you personally and professionally. What are your big goals? What are your values? From there, communicating with your current leader or any future leaders your interviewing with or working for to ensure that you're fulfilling your goals professionally while being encouraged to pursue your goals personally.

I also had a leader share with me in the past that a good way to think of this is to consider that you're juggling multiple balls at any point - your job, your home life, your friends, your hobbies, anything else that's important to you. It's important to know any point in time which balls are rubber, and can bounce back if you need to let them drop for a second, and which ones are glass and won't recover. That's going to change based on the season or the demands at each moment, so be flexible to that, but just be aware of where you stand. That should guide your decisions around balance.

Lastly, pay attention to your stress signals. Ask your loved ones if you're not sure how stress manifests in you if you've never thought about this before. Some signs may be if you start cancelling social plans a lot, or start missing deadlines on work projects, or sleeping poorly. If you start seeing these signals, be intentional around making time for intentional self care, whatever that looks like for you!

Heather’s Answer

Hi, Dixon! One of the things I've learned over my career is the answer to this question will change over time. I had times in my career where I was fine working lots of hours and doing the most for my job to move up. Other times in my life I've chosen to step back either to minimize my responsibility at work so I can focus on things in my personal/family life and other times stepped back in order to keep moving forward in a new role. I have learned that it's less work/life balance and more work/life harmony. You will have to understand what the mix of the two looks like for you based on things like where are you in your career, what is going on in your personal/family/community life, what are your near term/long term goals, and what do you value and need in your life right now. The mix of work and life will vary through your career and that's always ok. If you can find ways to be intentional with how much time you're committing to each part of your life it will help you manage the ups and downs over time instead of feeling like everything is a race to the end. Good luck and I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your question. This is a question related to time management. You need to find a time management tool to help, eg Google Calendar, MS Outlook, phone calendar, etc
Below are my suggestions:
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes
2. Allocate some time every day on your assignment, projects, cetc and review the material covered in the class everyday
3. Make sure you have enough time to sleep and do some exercise
4. You can then assign some time for your leisure and friends & family gathering
5. You may need to assign more time for revision before assessment
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Vandana’s Answer

Hi Dixon,
As individuals, both professional and personal lives play an important role in our all-round development. The time allocated for your work needs to be managed properly with adequate strategy and discipline. Make necessary arrangements / adjustments in your personal life that doesn't hinder your professional life. If personal life needs to be made a priority during your work hours, the professional lag needs to be managed accordingly. Communication plays an important role in this. It is all about proper time management. Both aspects need to be given the time they deserve based on your priority, situation and decision making. It will be helpful to you if you develop a hobby that gives you happiness and keeps you mentally charged for your professional life.
