What should I do if I need more money to pay for a school I would like to, but I don’t want to do scholarships that have to do with making things, I’d prefer to just write and essay. Also, it’s not even guaranteed money. #Spring25

I’m a senior who has sport commitments and I also work a job but with not a lot of hours. Do I work a lot this summer and miss out on my last summer as a kid, or what do I do?

It sounds like you have a fairly good balance of school, work and sports right now. In the summer since you will not have school commitments, I would recommend you work as much as you can while still keeping your sports commitments. You will be glad that you did because college is very expensive. Your friends will also be working so don't get too hung up on the 'last summer to be a kid' concept. A strong work ethic and money in the bank is good preparation for college. Best of luck to you!

I would recommend this. Work as much as you possibly can and save as much as you can. The other thing I would recommend is get a company that will help you pay tuition. There are companies that will pay half your tuition upfront. You will need to stay there a little bit longer but then you will have some hours for a paycheck and also the employee benefits. This will help you cover those expenses. Scholarships are hard sometimes. For me looking at places to work that can help me with school are very valuable. To be honest that is how the system should be done anyways.

Hi Gavin,

Picking up extra hours this summer is a smart move to save for school. Even working full-time won't take away your last summer as a kid. You might miss some free time now, but working a bit more can really help your future finances.

Think about exploring other job options. Many companies offer tuition reimbursement, which can lower your schooling costs. This means you could work while studying to help cover expenses.

Don't forget to apply for grants and scholarships. They often require an essay, but it's worth the effort. Check with your chosen school and local businesses for opportunities.

Try to minimize the loans you take out. They can add up fast, but a little sacrifice now will benefit you later.

You've got this! Good luck!
