Rhoda’s Answer

Traditional methods like sketching, painting, and sculpting give artists hands-on experiences that help them understand materials and techniques better. These techniques are essential as a foundation for creating new and exciting artworks. Without this base, the artwork might lose its essence.

By combining traditional and digital methods, students can build a complete artistic practice. They learn craftsmanship while exploring new digital techniques. A balanced curriculum helps students appreciate art history and prepares them for modern creative fields.

What kind of art teacher do you want to be? A school art teacher, a private lesson teacher for an organization, or perhaps open your own art center? If you're in Florida, you might consider reaching out to local libraries or civic centers. You could offer to teach art classes there, even if unpaid at first, to get a feel for what it's like to be an art teacher. This could be a good starting point for your career.

Jacob’s Answer

Understanding art fundamentals and traditional art is essential for success in digital art. Schools may have limited technology for teaching art, so it's important to use what is available. If you want to become an art teacher, take a Science of Reading course and as many studio classes as you can manage without overloading yourself. I teach digital media, and I've noticed that Photopea, Layout Pro, and Canva are more popular than Adobe.com. With new art standards in Ohio, I'm planning to update my lesson plans to focus more on digital art next year.

To become an art teacher, start by being an artist yourself. Students learn better when you can demonstrate the creative tasks you assign. Earn a BFA in Art Education, and study not only Western art but also Eastern and Middle Eastern art.

As Rhode suggested, visit local libraries or try a paint and sip class. Once you have your BFA, consider substitute teaching in your area to gain paid experience.
