What do you look for in a part-time job in a new city?
I'm moving to Orlando for college and I know I'll be needing a job to help support the costs, but I don't have a lot of experience job hunting. What's the norm for part-time gigs in Florida, and what are red flags?

Hi Grayson,
There are a few things you want to look for:
1. If you work to finance your studies you want to make the most money in the shortest amount of time (keep in mind the tip potential).
2. Consider how far you have to travel to get to your job and how much time (and money) you spend getting ready for the job or cleaning up after the job.
3. Job experience is becoming more and more important in hiring decisions, so any job that can also count as experience might be worth it even if it pays less.
For these reasons, jobs on campus are some of the best. Sign up for work study program to get a job on campus. Let your department know that you are looking for jobs.
Other than that, typical jobs are fast food, hospitality and retail. You can slso tutor kids in high-school. If you are computer savy, a job at a help desk might work. If you have skills designing websites or social media profiles etc that's an option too. You need to look for a job that is somewhat flexible, let's you choose your hours and possibly pause during exam time.
