How can I break into the game design and development industry after I obtain my Game Art Bachelors degree? #Spring25

I’m currently signed up to attend Full Sail University’s online Game Art course and plan to return for Game Development afterwards. I have heard that some game development companies like Nintendo and Activision like to contact Full Sail to get information about recent graduates. Is that true?

Start small, end big. You don't want to rush for big game companies immediately; start with small game companies, so you can add more and more to your resume to apply for big game companies.

The best way to find a job in the games industry is to prepare a competitive portfolio while in school (with a matching resume) and apply to numerous positions. A portfolio should show off some of your best work, some of which should be group projects. Getting much more specific than that will depend on what you want to do in the industry. There are four main categories for jobs that work on games: art, design, programming, and production. Companies typically prefer you specialize in one of these disciplines, so hopefully your education choices reflect what kind of position you eventually want.
As far as recruiting from specific colleges go, usually companies will post jobs with universities and attempt to build relationships with some of them. But having a games company come recruit specific students out of a college is incredibly rare. At the entry level, there are potentially thousands of applicants for open jobs. When the supply outweighs demand by that much it's usually easier to let candidates come to you. You need to be prepared for a long and difficult job search if you want to break into the industry.

A portfolio of different games you have made or worked on can be one of the best examples if what you work on and how you have solved problems. It is important to remember that these games do not have to be done in a "professional", make a few games for fun and include them (dont forget that games like dungeons and dragons and board games).
I always liked adding games that I am enjoying and that have inspired me but it is important to include "why" you like these
