Shenaya the internet is a great way to promote yourself since you can post photographs and videos that may reach thousands of people. Through social media, you can build followers and develop a platform. This could interest possible clients who might want your followers to see you wearing or using their products. If you don't already have a professional social media presence, start to build one. Focus particularly on those platforms that emphasize pictures and video.

📸 BUILD YOUR MODELING PORTFOLIO
You can start building your work portfolio by including pictures your friends and family take of you. Try to get pictures of yourself with little or no makeup, a very basic outfit with minimal accessories, and shot using natural lighting. It is important for the agency to see both your face and body so make sure to include a wide angle shot that shows your body and a closer in shot of your face. Wear fitted clothes to allow the agency to see the basic shape of your body. Play around with angles and poses to find your most flattering look to send to agencies. Plan on a similar approach when attending open modeling calls; your clothes should be well-fitted and hair and makeup should be minimal.

👀 LOOK FOR AN AGENT
You can try getting clients on your own, but most clients prefer working through a modeling agency, so it's best to look for an agent. When you visit an agency, bring your portfolio and expect to complete an audition. You can also prepare to provide your body statistics.
While some agencies may prefer professional pictures, your non-professional pictures may be sufficient. If an agency likes what they see, they may pay for you to visit a professional photographer. Ensure you research an agency to verify they are legitimate before signing a contract.

🎭 TAKE RELEVANT CLASSES
Consider attending classes at a local modeling school to teach you about the industry. These courses teach you how to perform at a photo shoot and maintain good health and nutrition. You may also consider attending acting or dance classes to improve relevant skills. Acting classes can help you perform better in a photo shoot where you have to convey a specific mood, while dance classes can help you develop poise and good posture.

🌀 NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK
Networking is an excellent approach to getting your foot in this profession. This is an amazing chance for you to connect with industry professionals like photographers, makeup artists, stylists, directors, and others. Specialized events are an excellent opportunity to network and learn about new prospects. Attend conferences, fashion shows, seminars, and other events to network and create partnerships. Make sure to share portfolio cards or a picture so that people can remember and contact you.

Good Luck Shenaya

Hello, Shenaya !

Wow ! Those are some questions, but in time, you will discover the answers for your own unique career !

As a person who has lived with and socialized with professional models, I am going to provide you with clear, doable and safe advice that will lead you to success. That is, if you are willing to do all the hard work it takes and are open minded enough to broaden your image and idea of what modeling really is.

You will not become a model like Cindy Rostran because you are Shenaya and Cindy Rostran is a separate person. You will be like Shenaya. You didn't mention your age. One thing you must know is that the steps to becoming a model are not generalized, the steps you take will be determined by your circumstances and you should not do ANYTHING until you have been trained and educated about the Modeling Industry through attending Modeling School. Since there are no modeling schools in Camballin, WA, this may be a bit difficult and you'll have to have your parents find a Modeling School so you can learn the skills and information it takes to become a model. Since you didn't mention your age, you can also wait until you turn 18, do the training on your own in a city that has a modeling school. This is not an easy career and general information is not going to be good for your journey if you want to be successful.

Do not go into modeling if the only reason you want it is to pose. It's a great deal more than posing and sometimes, it's not posing. You do not go into it because of what you want, you go into it understanding that you'll be doing what other people want. You will need a variety of and diverse social and life experience for this career.

Since you will not be able to train right away because there are no modeling schools near you, research how to do fashion shows at your school and in the community. You can look up this information by searching online. But realize that in the future you will need to know how to model for TV, film, runway print, commercials and photo shoots. Understand that you will need to be able to do it all.

Since you are not aware of the business, do not start getting photos, a portfolio, a wardrobe and all of the things models need. It will be some time before you are ready to work because there's a lot to learn. Absolutely DO NOT put your identity, photos and information online. It's NOT done this way and can lead to consequences, especially since you have not been trained yet or know the industry yet. After you are educated and trained as a Model, that is the only time you should start pursuing work and it's NOT through social media.

Understand that Models are an important selling device used in many different ways. You will need to have a quality that sells and will be evaluated for this by modeling schools that you apply to and then later when you go on "go sees" for work. Modeling always looks easy peasy to people because all they see is the finished product, but it's a lot more than that. Also, in order to get work as a Model, it's the other people who choose you, not you just because it seems like a "fun" thing to do.

So, these are some of the unvarnished truths about going into Modeling. You can do it if you are motivated for the right reason which will give you a good business sense. It's not a business to rush into, so give it time. Your Modeling School will guide you according to your specifics.

Best wishes and enjoy your training !

Kent’s Answer

It’s great that you already know why you want to become a model—that passion and curiosity will help you stay motivated! Here’s a clear guide to help you start your modeling journey:

Why Your Passion Matters:
• Loving to pose and wanting to explore the modeling world is the perfect reason to start.
• This career is about expression, creativity, and confidence. When you love what you do, it will show through your photos and on the runway.

Kent recommends the following next steps:

1. Understand the Types of Modeling: • Fashion/Runway Model: Tall, lean, and high fashion-focused. • Commercial Model: Focuses on advertising (clothing brands, beauty products, etc.). • Print Model: Appears in magazines, catalogs, and posters. • Fitness Model: Health and athletic brand modeling. • Parts Model: Focuses on specific body parts (hands, feet, etc.). • Social Media/Influencer Model: Builds a following and partners with brands online.
2. Build Your Confidence & Posing Skills: • Practice posing in front of a mirror and study how professional models pose in magazines and fashion shows. • Record yourself walking and posing to critique your style and posture. • Watch modeling tutorials online (YouTube has free resources).
3. Start a Simple Portfolio: • Take clear photos: Headshots, full-body shots, and side profiles in natural light. • You don’t need professional photos right away; clean, natural looks are preferred for beginners.
4. Research and Approach Modeling Agencies: • Look for reputable agencies in your area. Be cautious of scams—legit agencies don’t ask for money upfront. • Submit your photos and attend open casting calls if available.
Take Care of Your Health and Appearance: • Healthy skin, good posture, and confidence go a long way. • You don’t need to fit one beauty standard—there’s demand for all looks and styles in the modern modeling industry.
