What colleges in Texas are best for a student who wants to pursue a career in orthodontics. What major should I choose?

I am an incoming high school senior and want to choose the best college in Texas. What colleges have the best pre dental programs that will help me stand out for dental school applications. I was thinking about Texas A&M or UT in Austin.

Start by researching what you need to get into orthodontics school. Look into colleges or universities that offer the right degree for this. Contact these programs to talk to an admissions expert for more details on the requirements. Both A&M and UT are good choices, but make sure they offer the degrees you need to reach your ultimate goal.

Hi Kimberly,

Both schools are great for orthodontics. When thinking about the best, consider more than just the basics. Harvard School of Dental Medicine has a top-notch orthodontic residency program, focusing on clinical training, research, and leadership. You might also think about studying abroad in places like London, Sweden, or Switzerland. If you choose a school like Harvard, they might offer a semester abroad. Try sitting down with some paper and doing a bit of research. Aim high, because even if you miss, you'll still be among the stars!

Hope this helps!
Thank you comment icon Thank you. I hope to reach that far😅 but right now I want to stay in state because it’s cheaper. Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly !

It seems as though both Texas A nd M and the University of Texas, Austin both have remarkably wonderful pre-dental programs.

When trying to figure out which one is best for you and your particular circumstances and preferences, a good time spent comparing the two may help. My advice is to apply to both of them. The acceptance rate at Texas A and M is better at 63% whereas the acceptance rate at the University of Texas at Austin is about 29%.. The high school GPA requirement for Texas A and M is 3.66 and the GPA requirement for the University of Texas at Austin is 3.84. Those are just some technical comparisons, but you can learn a lot more about these universities.

Go to their websites and read about their Pre-Dental Program and see what is required for the Major. Which program of courses do you like better ? You will also need to take General Education Requirement courses at college, too, so read what both colleges require for general education required courses and weigh it out between the two based on which you like better.

Keep in mind that both Pre-Dental programs at both colleges will provide you with clinical experience.

Visit the college or call to find out what Pre-Dental Major you should choose. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry ? You can e-mail the colleges or call them so you can get the exact information you'll need to complete your admission application.

You really won't have to worry about "standing out" for Dental School after you obtain your Bachelors Degree because both Texas A and M and the University of Texas at Austin are actual Dental Schools. Both of their schools of Dentistry are very well noted and prominent Dental Schools in the U.S. Getting your Bachelors Degree at one of these colleges will give you a familiarity that you can bring to Dental School. You may even know some of the professors by that time that will also teach you in Dental School. You have already chosen two of the best known colleges that offer good opportunity and preparation.

Don't forget to apply for scholarships, grants and Federal Student Financial Aid.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !

Hi Kimberly,

I would go to UT Austin as it is a school with more national wide recognition. Texas A&M is a great school as well though! You will have to ensure you stay focused and get great grades for when the time comes to apply to dental school.

Best,
Malik
